Default Character Name Change Poll

Well, there have been countless threads begging for the ability to change the character name. I think the best way to present an idea to A-Net is a poll - it easily shows the general player consensus on the idea, and it saves sifting through hundreds of posts to find player opinions.

So, here is a poll to show exactly what people want in terms of name changing. PLEASE DO NOT post in here saying "I want hair/primary profession/face changes". This has nothing to do with these ideas - it is about NAME CHANGES.

If you had the ability to make unlimited name changes, people who have acted... er.... less than righteously in the past would be able to change names and go on-- unless the changed name updates itself on people's "ignore" lists (and consequently in all forms of bad publicity they've gotten). But then all of these name changes would be impossible to keep track of! Argh!

Personally, I've never really worried about name changes. However! The name for my favorite character originated from a funny-at-the-time bike geek joke and I do sort of wish I could change it.

It's an idea that could prove itself useful, but I don't see it getting a lot of support for numerous reasons (all of the "ill repute" things).

I voted no, mainly because you picked the name, if you messed up or mispelled it, then re-create it right then. But when you make the name, you should have in your mind, "I'm going to have this char for a while, better choose wisely."

Being able to change your name also gives people the chance to steal other names, that aren't their own. I vote no.

I voted no, what is the point of changing a characters name? So you can have a "cool" name? No, keep the original name, why did you make the original one if you want to change it later on?

Good poll!

Changing the name will be more user-friendly and benefit players that:
a) after evolving in the game, want to reflect that change in their character(s).
b) think their character's name sucks...
c) created an inappropriate name and thus are 'allowed' to change it seamlessly.

I'm for the idea, but with limits in number of times, in order to avoid escalation of abuses.

There's always the problem of copycats or names that may be too similar from each other. But that would be up to Anet to manage future complaints (easier said than done isn't it? ).

It's ridiculous to change names. For one thing I see a lot of abuse the changing system to avoid reprimands for breaking the rules.

I don't know. I'm inclined to say the potential for abuse is really high, but we already know that the system tracks accounts, not characters.

I don't like the idea of changing charcter names, thugh i would love to change the surname on some of mine as i have now adopted Grey on most characters, however for the above reason of ause and people who have bad names changing to get round it, i.e. scammers, I wouldn't allow it in any form,
You mad ethe name, if it was for some silly reason then live with it, I chose mine because they reflected charcter i like in literaure. If it was as a joke that isnt funny any longer, or it doesnt reflect how you see your character then maybe the person should have acted with more foresight. Of all the necessary things we need updated or improved this just seems silly, I'd rather be able to change my hairstyle than a name

Changing names is a bad idea. If you dont like the name of your character.. you shouldnt have named it that. Plain and simple. Plus.. wouldnt the friends list turn into absolute hell?
